Get a passport photo
We’ll take your child’s passport photo and check it meets the latest HMPO rules. This is the photo we’ll use for their application.
Submit your application
For a small cost, we’ll complete your child’s passport application online and send your documents to the Passport Office.
Receive their passport
After everything has been checked, you’ll receive your child’s first passport in the post. This is usually completed within 10 weeks.

There are just so many rules to worry about, and getting your child to sit in the right position can quickly become a nightmare. A rejected passport photo will hold up your application, and the last thing you want to do is ruin the next big family holiday.

We take professional passport photos for babies, toddlers and all other kids, and then electronically check they’ll be approved by HMPO.
Baby passport photo requirements you need to know
Meeting Passport Office rules is so much harder when taking baby passport pictures. To make things more complicated, photo requirements will actually depend on the age of your child.
We’ll worry about all the HMPO rules for you, but here are the main requirements to be aware of.
- Children under 1 do NOT need to have their eyes open. You can support their head, but your hand must not be visible
- Children under 6 do NOT need to look directly at the camera or have a neutral expression.
- Children of all ages must be alone in the picture, so toys, dummies and parents cannot be visible.

Baby passport photos cost £12.99 in our shops, which is the same price as adults and kids of all ages.
Where can I get baby passport photos?
You can get professional baby passport photos in Max Spielmann shops all over the UK. There’s no need to book, simply find your nearest shop and bring your child in whenever you’re ready.
Baby passport photos are not available from our passport photo booths, so you’ll always need to come into one of our shops. However, our passport booths are suitable for most children over 4, so they remain an option for older kids.
Do you offer digital baby passport photos?
Yes, your set of printed baby passport photos will include a digital code, which can be used for online passport applications. Simply enter the digital code when prompted, and this will instantly add your baby's passport photos to their application!
What should my baby wear for their passport photo?
We recommend your baby wear dark, solid colours that will contrast with the white background, while avoiding any headwear, dummies or toys.
What is acceptable for a baby passport photo?
Rules for newborn baby passport photos are more relaxed than passports for older kids. The main requirements are a plain background, your child is alone in the picture, and they’re facing the camera (even though their eyes don’t need to be open).
What if my baby's passport photos are rejected?
Our in-store experts always check that your baby passport photos will be accepted by HMPO. In the unlikely event they reject your photo, simply come back to our shop and we’ll take another photo for you completely free of charge.
