Online passport prints and digital passport photos are not the same thing. A digital passport photo includes a code for online passport applications, whereas online passport photos are simply prints ordered online.
These online passport prints don’t include a digital code, so they cannot be used for online passport applications. If you’re applying online, you’ll need to get digital passport photos in our shops instead.

Before taking your passport photos at home, you’ll need to make sure you’re following the right rules.
While photo requirements can vary between different forms of ID, here’s what you’ll usually need.
Size must be 45x35mm (the same size as our ID photo prints)
Plain light background, white or cream works best
Neutral expression, with eyes open and no smiling
Lighting should be even, with no harsh shadows
No head coverings, unless for religious or medical reasons
Print quality must be sharp, clear and in colour!
Please note: Passport photo requirements are much stricter than other ID photos, which is why we recommend getting passport photos in-store. We can guarantee they’ll follow the strict HMPO rules!

Frequently asked questions about passport photo prints
Should I print passport photos online or in-store?
We always recommend getting passport photos in-store rather than online, so that our in-store experts can check they’ll be accepted by HMPO.
Online passport prints also don’t include a digital code, so cannot be used if you’re applying for a passport online. Since we can’t check your photo meets all the right rules, we also can’t guarantee that it’ll be accepted by HMPO.
What’s the difference between online and digital passport photos?
A digital passport photo includes a code for online passport applications, whereas online passport photos are simply prints ordered online.
Online passport photos are taken at home and don’t include a code, so are no good if you’re applying online. Our digital passport photos are taken in-store by our passport experts and then checked by HMPO.
What size are passport photos in the UK?
Standard UK passport photos are 45mm x 35mm (45mm high, 35mm wide). This is the regulation size for the vast majority of UK identification documents, including driving licences, railcards, bus passes, student cards and passport photos.
Our online passport prints are perfectly sized to meet this standard. You’ll get 6 copies printed on a single 6x4” print, so you can easily cut them to size!
How quickly can I get my passport photo prints?
When you order passport photos online, they’ll be ready to Click & Collect in just 20 minutes. Next-day home delivery is also available on all ID photo prints ordered online before 12pm, Monday to Friday.
Can I use the same photo for a passport and driving licence?
Yes, as long as it meets the standard UK ID photo requirements (plain background, neutral expression, no glasses, etc.), the same photo can usually be used for multiple types of ID. Just make sure you've got enough prints!
How many passport photos do I get?
You'll receive 6 identical passport photos printed on a single 6x4" sheet. Please note that all 6 photos must be the same image, you can't order different photos on one ID print.
What if my passport photo is rejected?
If you're ordering online, we unfortunately can't guarantee acceptance for official government documents (particularly passports). This means we cannot process returns or refunds if your passport photos have been rejected.
Nothing beats peace of mind, so we strongly recommend visiting your nearest shop instead, as our colleagues will check your photos on the spot and retake them free of charge if there's any issue!
