Can I use my passport photo for my driving licence?
Yes, in most cases. If you’re renewing your driving licence online, the DVLA can often use your existing digital passport photo as part of your application. If not, you’ll need to upload a new digital driving licence photo, so just ask our in-store colleagues to email you a digital copy.
If you’re applying by post or want to update your photo, you’ll need to send a recent printed photo for your D1 form.
What size is a UK driving licence photo?
A UK driving licence photo measures 35mm wide by 45mm high, which is exactly the same measurements as a passport photo and many other ID photos.

When applying by post, you’ll need to send just a single driving licence print with your D1 form. We’ll give you a set of 4 printed driving licence photos, so you’ll have a few spares.
Do you offer digital driving licence photos?
Yes, we offer a digital copy of your driving licence in our shops and at our photo booths, ready to use on your online driving licence application. Simply ask our in-store colleagues for a digital copy or enter your email address at the booth, and we’ll email over a digital copy right away!
Who can sign my driving licence photo?
You usually don’t need a signature when renewing, but the signer must hold a valid driving licence, live in the UK, know you personally, and not be a relative or live at your address.
Can I smile in my driving licence photo?
No, keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed.
Do you send my application to the DVLA for me?
Nope, we’ll take, check and print your driving licence photo, but you’ll need to submit your DVLA application yourself. Our Apply & Go service only covers passport applications, not driving licences.
