Frequently asked questions about baby passport photos
How much are baby passport photos?
Baby passport photos are £12.99 in our shops. It’s the same price for newborns, toddlers, infants, teens and kids of all ages.
Where can I get baby passport photos near me?
Get professional baby passport photos at any of our 400+ shops across the UK, including those inside Tesco and ASDA supermarkets. No booking is required; simply check your nearest shop’s opening times and visit us whenever you’re ready!
What if HMPO rejects my baby passport photos?
It very rarely happens, but if your baby passport photos are rejected, then we’ll retake them completely free of charge.
Our in-store experts electronically check every child’s passport photo, so we make sure they meet HMPO’s latest rules before you take anything home!
Do you offer digital baby passport photos?
Yes. Every set of printed baby passport photos comes with a digital ID code, which you can use on your child’s online passport application. Simply enter the code when prompted, and the photo will be added to the application instantly (so there’s no need to post anything).
How long do baby passport photos take?
It usually takes just a few minutes for us to position your child, get them comfortable, and take their passport photo. However, some kids can take a little longer to get settled, so this means things might take a little longer!
There’s no need to make an appointment, just pop in when you’re ready!
Can I get baby passport photos at your passport booths?
No, our passport photo booths are not suitable for children under 4. Newborns and other young children need the support of our in-store colleagues, so you’ll need to visit a Max Spielmann shop for baby passport photos.
What should my child wear for their first passport photo?
Dark, solid colours work best for all passport photos, since they contrast so well with the light-coloured background. We’d advise against wearing anything with a hood, and leave any hats, headbands or dummies at home (or in the car).
What are the current baby passport photo requirements?
HMPO passport photo rules differ between ages, so the requirements are slightly more relaxed for newborns and other younger children. Under-1s don’t need to open their eyes, look at the camera or keep a neutral expression, whereas children over 6 are required to do all of those things.
Some kids' passport photo rules are consistent across all ages: a plain background, your child alone in the photo, no shadows, and nothing covering their face.
At what age can a baby have a passport photo taken?
From birth! There’s no minimum age for a baby passport photo, and newborn passport photos actually have the most relaxed rules.
Can I hold my baby in their passport photo?
You can support your child’s head if they’re under one, but your hand must remain completely hidden in the photo. Our colleagues will show you exactly how to do this, so you don’t have to worry!
