Photo collages bring your most amazing photos together in all kinds of cute, quirky and creative ways. The possibilities are pretty much endless, so we’ve put together some of our very best photo collage ideas to help get you started.

From creative collage layouts to unique themes, this is a hand-picked selection of our favourite collage examples, including ideas for eye-catching wall art and fun photo collage gifts!

1. Year of “firsts” collage

A super-cute “Year of Firsts” collage shows just how much they’ve grown - and lets you relive all their most magical moments. This photo collage theme works particularly well with a one-photo-per-month type layout, exactly like this adorable “my first year” framed print.

You’ll need to choose your favourite baby photo from each month (picking just one is no easy task) and then simply add a unique monthly caption under each one!

2. Timeline of photos collage

A timeline photo collage is a *really* impactful way of telling your amazing stories. Think about it, you could create a timeline of your magical relationship, the dog’s funniest moments, or even how much the kids have grown over the years.

Whatever your story, a timeline collage displays all your favourite moments in chronological order so you can relive them all over again. A classic horizontal timeline is our favourite layout, but you could also try a vertical or zig-zag design if you want to try something a bit different!

3. Travel map collage

Hands down, this is our number 1 favourite travel photo collage idea. And it’s not even close.

Simply get hold of a world, country or city map of somewhere you’ve been, and then stick your holiday photos in the exact locations they were taken. Instead of simply sticking photos in a holiday album, this is a really powerful way of showing off your adventures.

4. Retro-inspired film strip collage

Ahh, everyone loves some sweet nostalgia, so a retro film strip collage is a really cute and creative way to showcase your stories. This framed film strip print is a really good example of what we’re talking about here, with a selection of 3 photos displayed in a quirky film strip style.

Your film strip collage could be either horizontal or vertical, while this collage idea works particularly well with old childhood photos, sunny holiday snaps, wedding pictures, and basically any other special event you’ll soon be feeling all nostalgic for.

5. Cute heart-shaped collage

Yep, a heart-shaped photo collage is the perfect way to show off all the photos you love most. From magical wedding days to adorable pet pics, arranging photos into a classic heart shape will always have a really strong visual impact, even if it’s not the most original photo collage idea on this list.

6. Quirky spiral collage

Speaking of a strong visual impact, you could try arranging your photo collage in a cool spiral shape instead. Whether you’re telling a story or simply showcasing your favourite snaps, this swirl of photos would start with your smallest photo in the centre, and then spiral outwards as the photos get bigger and bigger.

The end result is a striking spiral pattern that draws attention from afar, so it’s one of our favourite photo collage ideas for walls. It’s a fairly simple layout, but it still makes a statement piece of wall art, especially when printed on photo posters or canvas prints

7. Colourful scrapbook-style collage

Filled with quirky patterns, colours and scribbles, a scrapbook photo collage has a more authentic, homemade feel to it. They’re jam-packed with character and feel much more personal than some of our other photo collage ideas, especially when they include layered photos and colourful borders.

This framed scrapbook collage print is a good example. It’s laid out just like a classic scrapbook page, with cute doodles, patterns and captions that make your photos really *pop*.

8. “Then and now” photo collage

Let’s face it, a “Then and Now” photo collage is always loads of fun, and they’re also really easy to put together. This collage idea is all about showing change over time, so you can simply display old and new photos side-by-side (or even from top to bottom) to have the desired effect.

The most popular theme is to use old childhood photos alongside photos of the same person as an adult, but you can do a “Then and Now” collage for pets, places, or almost anything else!

9. A letter collage

Just like this framed letter collage print example, a letter collage displays photos inside letters to spell out a word - such as “friends”, “family” or “love”. It’s a really creative way of showcasing photos to fit a specific theme, whether that be holiday adventures, family photos, selfies with friends or Dad’s favourite photos of the kids.

10. A photo mosaic collage

Okay, so crafting a photo mosaic is definitely the trickiest photo collage idea to pull off here, but it’s also the most impactful.

A photo mosaic uses dozens (or even 100s) of small photos to form a much larger image. For example, from afar it might look like a photo of a happy couple but, as you get closer, you’ll notice the entire image is made of much smaller photos of the same couple.

This involves a really clever mix of colours, patterns and shapes, but there are tools online that help you create photo mosaics in no time at all!
